AAMH is building strong collaborations between India and Australia through addressing global mental health issues together
The Ministry of Health and the National Institute for Health and Family Welfare in India are planning to co-host the annual conference of the Asia Pacific Community Mental Health Development Program (APCMHDP) network. The conference is to be held in Delhi, India, in February 2011, and will include high-level representation from Australia, India, and other countries from the Asia Pacific.
The program will launch a new community mental health model for India, focusing on a pilot community mental health project key centers throughout India. The proposed meeting will also showcase best practice models of partnerships in community mental health from the 17 countries of the APCMHDP network, as well as develop a consensus statement about the principles of these partnerships.
This partnership comes from a 5-year history of productive collaboration between Asia-Australia Mental Health (AAMH) and the Directorate General of Health Services of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. AAMH is a consortium of the University of Melbourne (Department of Psychiatry and Asialink) and St Vincent’s Health.
The APCMHDP network is a unique and innovative project aimed at illustrating and inspiring best practice in community mental health care in the Asia-Pacific region. A vibrant network of mental health government officials, chief psychiatrists and research leaders are engaged in this project from seventeen countries.
