Seoul-Melbourne International Collaboration in Mental Health

This landmark collaboration between AAMH and Seoul City, aimed at boosting mental health reform in Seoul City, was launched  in 2004 (read more).  Since then a number of delegations have visited both Melbourne and Seoul. Outcomes include:

  • A dialogue on mental health policy and reform between Seoul government officials and AAMH
  • Education and training for Seoul clinicians in mental health care and promotion in the community
  • A greater understanding among Melbourne mental health clinicians of current models of community mental health care used in Seoul.

The Seoul City partners include: Yongin Mental Hospital WHO Collaborating Centre for Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Community Mental Health, Seoul Metropolitan Community Mental Health Centre and Seoul City Hospitals.

As part of the collaboration, AAMH have conducted in-country training workshops in Seoul. This work has been supported in part by the Australia-Korea Foundation.

Korea is also an active participant in the Asia-Pacific Community Mental Health Development Project.
